Dear Cupcakes,
I am sorry you had to find out like this. But I just can’t lie to you any more. I was not spending late nights at work, and that flour you found on my apron was not from last week’s post. I have found someone—something else to love. Doughnuts.
I think it’s time we see other people.
With all my stomach,
Lizzy
Vanilla Cake Doughnuts:
¾ cup + 1 T all purpose flour
¼ cup whole wheat pastry flour

½ teaspoon nutmeg
2 T butter

1 teaspoon vanilla
¼ cup whole milk or buttermilk, scalded
¼ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
Chocolate Glaze:
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 T milk
1 cup powdered sugar

4. In a small bowl, lightly beat egg with vanilla.

8. Bake for about 8 minutes or until the tops spring back.
9. Let rest in pans for 2 minutes and then remove.
10.Chocolate Glaze: Combine ingredients in a small bowl using a whisk or fork until smooth. Adjust using milk and powdered sugar as necessary.
11. Dip warm doughnuts into glaze.

Lizzy, I completely understand. I cheat on my cupcakes with donuts from time to time also. Don't worry, your cupcake will still love you when you get back!
PS – I love all your recipes!
I also love her cupcakes too… This doughnut is so awesome
Doughnut is my favorite food!!
I want it too
I was just talking to my daughter this morning about doughnuts and how there are too few doughnut shops in America (So. California excluded- there's one on every corner down there!).
That was a cute "story." Love your blog!
P.S. Is it crazy that I woke up this morning thinking about cupcakes? Specifically, your cupcakes and how they are always SO beautiful!
Our second moms from the ward will officially love you now!
Maybe doughnuts can just be the secret lover? Or it can be like a Three's Company setting! Hehe… either way, these doughnuts look so delicious!
Oh Doughnuts are just the best! 😀 Thanks for posting up the recipe and lovely blog you have I must say! Will be back for more!
Wow!! these look marvelous… so mouth watering.. Lovely post.
The timing of this post could not be more perfect as I have been wanting to make donuts with my 4 year old son, but he prefers cake donuts. But where did you get that awesome donut pan???
P.S. For some reason your site isn't letting me comment with my google account so I had to post anonymous.

Oh, I am so sorry for the Google Account trouble. I got my pans on Amazon, I got the Norpro regular and the mini. They are wonderful!
Looks wonderful! Really want to make these.. check out my teenage, baking blog at http://teenage-baking.blogspot.com/
haven't tryed them yet.can i use regular flour?
I am sure you can, they just will just be a little lighter perhaps in texture.
Looking forward to making this recipe this week! I teach children’s cooking classes and will be doing this recipe with my dessert class! Your pictures are great on your site!! Thanks again, Lisa
hi lizzy where did you purchase your doughnut pan?
Question. How do you keep your donuts fresh & moist overnight?
I’ve been making donuts for our coffee shop and i I put them in Tupperware and seal it to keep them moist, but after I do that the glaze sinks into the top and becomes mushy
I would glaze them in the morning then. Just pour a nice warm glaze on top before you put them on display
I would like to make these with gf flour, would taking out or substituting the whole wheat flour, for gf flour make a difference?
you should be fine making that substitution!
I’d to make your donut recipe but I can’t see what you do with the butter once it’s crumbled ?
HI Lizzy,
Can i use the chocolate glaze part of this recipe to put on homemade Fudgy chocolate pop tarts, and will it harden on the pop tart easily?
please let me know by e-mailing me at [email protected]
