THE BEST Cake Mix Cookies Ever
I have been making cake mix cookies for years! Don’t get me wrong, I love cookies made from scratch and I make those all the time too. But when I need a cakey/brownie like cookie I love making my World’s Best Cake Mix cookies! I mix up 3 ingredients and they’re in the oven in less than 5 minutes! You can top these cookies with all types of frostings or icings or even make ice cream sandwiches out of them! My Homemade Oreos use this recipe and those are a huge hit at every party.
The Secret to Making the Best Cake Mix Cookies
There are 2 main secrets to making the best cake mix cookies. First, the cake mix! Each cake mix brand is different and I’ve made this recipe with just about all the brands and the Pillsbury Devil’s Food cake mix is always my favorite. Other brands spread way too much in the oven! The second secret is baking time! Every oven is a little different and it can also vary depending on the size of your dough balls but you really don’t want to dry these cookies out. They’re meant to be sort of brownie like and soft! When you pull them out of the oven they won’t look “wet” on top but they also won’t be very firm. If you’re worried about when to take them out sometimes I like to only put in 2 dough balls and bake them, and then see how they turn out before baking the rest.
World’s Best Cake Mix Cookies
I love topping these cookies with a cream cheese frosting! The sweet cookies pair perfectly with the tangy cream cheese frosting and it’s like heaven biting into them. The slice of strawberry just really puts these over the top. Try adding raspberries if that’s more your jam! For photos I left the stems of my strawberries on, but I would normally trim those off because I really do love the taste of all 3 things together. If you want to be really cute for Valentine’s Day you can make a Strawberry “heart” by cutting out the stem in a “v” cut and then cutting the strawberry in half!
Want one other tip for making these World’s Best Cake Mix Cookies even better? Serve them cold! I know that may sound strange but trust me! Chilling these cookies in the fridge is incredible! It stiffens the cream cheese frosting a little bit and makes them easier to eat (and transport to any party) and just makes them taste better! Because they’re so good cold, this is THE PERFECT cookie to make the night before an event or party!
World's Best Cake Mix Cookies
The hunt is over. These really are the BEST cake mix cookie's you'll ever make! They're soft and brownie like and heavenly with this cream cheese frosting!
Ingredients
- 1 box Pillsbury Devil's Food Cake Mix other cake mix brands don't work as well
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup oil
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 6 oz cream cheese
- 6 Tbsp. butter room temperature
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 1/2-3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- berries optional
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

Combine cake mix, eggs and oil. (I like to sift my cake mix before to make mixing very easy.) You can mix by hand or using a mixer.

Make dough balls roughly the size of a golf ball and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Gently press down just a little bit on each dough ball, you don't want them to bake up too tall!

Bake for 6-9 minutes. The cookies will look "dry" as opposed to wet but they won't be firm. They will firm as they cool! My oven bakes a little hotter so I never exceed 6 minutes. Let cool on cookie sheets for 2-3 minutes and then transfer to cooling racks.

Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, vanilla and 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar. Scrape down the bowl occasionally to keep the frosting smooth. Continue to add more powdered sugar until the frosting is sweet enough for you or stiff enough to pipe. I like to keep my cream cheese frosting from being overly sweet.
