Get in the Thanksgiving mood with these adorable Nutter Butter Oreo Turkey Cupcakes! Using these store-bought cookies and some candy corn make these the cutest and easiest cupcakes this time of year!
Who’s ready for stuffing, mountains of mashed potatoes, and the one time of the year I eat Jello! Yeah, jello. My grandmother has this incredible jello recipe with cranberries and walnuts and pineapple… I’m not usually a jello fan but I look forward to this dessert every year. So where’s the recipe? Well you can find it deep in the abyss of the blog back from 5 years ago. But photos of jello just never turn out that well, but maybe this year I’ll need to re-post it.
I broke off the bottom of my Nutter Butters because I only wanted the top half to show. I bought some candy eyes from the store and then cut a candy corn to make the orange beak. But you can use an orange Starburst or M&M if that’s easier. I used a little Fruit Roll-up for the gobble and melted down some almond bark to use as my “glue.”
The feathers!!! I used double chocolate Oreos and candy corn! You can use regular Oreos but I thought the chocolate versions blended in nicely and looked like part of the turkey’s body. I just pressed the candy corns into the filling and they stuck! Tah-dah!
Just pop them both onto your frosted cupcakes and there you go! Let the Thanksgiving festivities begin!
I have 2 other Turkey Cupcakes so if you want to make a whole family of them you can!
This is a version with round Nutter Butters and no Oreos!
And here’s a fun Reese’s Pieces version!
Turkey Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1 box devil's food cake mix Pillsbury is my favorite
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 C. oil
- 1/2 C. buttermilk or milk
- 1 C. sour cream
- FROSTING:
- 1 C. butter softened
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/3 C. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp. milk
- 2-3 1/2 C. powdered sugar
- FOR DECORATION:
- 24 Nutter Butters
- 24 Oreos
- Candy Corn about 6 per cupcake
- candy eyes
- red candy to make gobbles Fruit Roll-ups or Starbursts
- frosting or melted almond bark for "glue"
Instructions
-
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line pans with cupcake liners.
-
2. Mix cake mix, eggs, oil, buttermilk and sour cream together until smooth.
-
3. Fill cupcake liners 3/4 full and bake for 15-20 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
-
4. Let cool.
-
5. Frosting: Beat butter until smooth. Add vanilla extract, cocoa powder, milk and 1 C. powered sugar. Continue to add powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency.
-
6. Frost cupcakes.
-
7. (See photos) Use your melted almond bark to "glue" on your eyes, beaks (cut-up candy corn or orange M&M) and gobbles. I simply dipped a toothpick into the melted chocolate and dabbed it on what I was "glueing." Split your Oreos (you can eat the un-frosted side) and press candy corns into the cream filling to make "feathers." Press your turkey faces and feathers into the frosted cupcakes to make them look like the photos.

What a creative idea for a turkey! Using double chocolate Oreos really elevates the look—great choice! I remember a fun game called Monkey Mart, where you can also mix ingredients creatively. It’s a fantastic way to explore creativity, much like your turkey! Have you thought of adding some edible glitter for a festive touch?

This is an adorable idea for a festive treat! The use of candy eyes and a candy corn beak really brings it to life. It reminds me of how simple yet rewarding it is to create something fun, much like trying to master Flappy Bird – both require patience and creativity! I wonder how these would look with some food coloring or sprinkles on top for extra festivity.
