Game Day Donuts

Fall means football.  Saturdays until Monday we’re in our jerseys, on the couch, jumping up and screaming, and eating lots and lots of food.  But there’s only so much chip and dip we can eat, right?  So why not mix things up a bit?

I used the fun new Funfetti® Lil’ Donut Kits from Pillsbury® to make some manly treats for the men in our lives.

I first made the glazed chocolate donuts.  But when I rolled them, I shaped them a little oblong so that they would bake into football shapes!

I used the glazed as normal, let that harden and then used a little melted white chocolate and a plastic bag with the corner snipped off to pipe on the little white “threads” of the football.

I also got the maple glazed donut kit! I made some regular ones (but used my own sprinkles) but I tossed half the batch in some cinnamon-sugar instead of using the glaze.  I fried up some bacon and put them all on skewers!

Football Donut Holes:

1 box Funfetti Glazed Chocolate Lil’ Donut Kit

1/3 C. butter, melted

½ C. milk

glaze packet (from donut kit)

3 Tbsp. milk (this is more than called for on the box recipe)

¼ C. white chocolate melts or chips

Directions:

1.     Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

2.     In a large bowl, combine donut mix, butter and milk.

3.     Make dough balls the size of walnuts and roll them tightly.  Gently pinch the sides to make a “football” shape and place on cookie sheets.  Bake for 9-11 minutes and let cool.

4.     In a small bowl, combine the glaze packet with milk using a whisk or a fork.  (I use more milk than said on the box because I still want to see a dark brown color to get the football effect.)

5.     Dip cooled donuts in glaze and put on a cooling rack to let glaze drip off.

6.     Melt white chocolate and put into a small plastic bag.  Snip off the corner and pipe the “threads” on the football. Wait for the chocolate to dry, then serve! Go team!

 My oblong little dough balls before they got “kicked” into the oven…I’m so funny.  

Tah-dah! Touchdown!

Maple Bacon Donut Skewers:

1 box Funfetti Maple Glazed Lil’ Donut Kit

1/3 C. butter, melted

1/3 C. milk

glaze, from donut kit prepared as directed on box

cinnamon and sugar, optional

10 slices of bacon, cooked and chopped

6 skewers

Directions:

1.     Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

2.     In a large bowl, combine donut mix, butter and milk.

3.     Make dough balls the size of walnuts and tightly roll in your palms.

4.     Place on cookie sheets and bake for 9-11 minutes.  Let cool. (If you want to toss some in cinnamon-sugar like me, then roll half in cinnamon-sugar as soon as they come out of the oven!)

5.     Prepare glaze a directed on box.  Dip the donuts in the glaze and set on a cooling rack to let the extra glaze drip off. (I glazed half of my donuts and cinnamon-sugar coated the other half.)

6.     Assemble skewers by alternating donut holes and pieces of bacon.  Go team!

Mmm…everything is better with bacon!

You can put fruit or ANYTHING on the skewers with the donuts!
