These Golden Oreo Cupcakes are made with yellow cake, cream cheese frosting, topped with a cookie and baked on top of a Golden Oreo! An easy way to jazz up any yellow cake mix! I figured after I made my homemade Golden Oreos I might as well make a cupcake version!
The adorable yellow polka dot liners are from Sweets & Treats!
The Story:
The kids are back in school. Bring on the lunch boxes filled with string cheese, apples, Doritos and Oreos.
Golden Oreo Cupcakes
Ingredients
Yellow Cake:
- 20-24 Golden Oreos
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 C. oil
- 3/4 C. sour cream
- 1/2 C. milk or butter milk
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 8 oz. cream cheese
- 1/2 C. butter softened
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp. milk
- 3-4 C. powdered sugar
Extra Golden Oreos for decoration
Instructions
-
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line pans with cupcake liners.
-
2. Place an Oreo on the bottom of each liner.
-
3. Sift cake mix into a large bowl to remove any lumps.
-
4. Add eggs, oil, sour cream, milk and vanilla extract and stir until smooth.
-
5. Fill cupcake liners (over Oreos) until about 3/4 full.
-
6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean. (Depending on your oven you may want to bake on a higher rack to not burn the Oreos on the bottom, some ovens get extra hot from below, so be careful!)
-
7. Let cool.
-
8. Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add vanilla extract, milk and 2 cups. powdered sugar an beat again. Continue to add more powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency.
-
9. Pipe onto cooled cupcakes and top with an extra Golden Oreo!
Surprise! An Oreo at the bottom of the cake!! Now, you can only do half of the Oreo if you want. Then use the spare cookie to top the Oreo at the end.
My little photo set-up by the window! I use a reflector board, a white tabletop made for me by Luv Mod Vintage (email me if you want the contact info), and a few little props to bring in some color. I get most of my cake stands from TJ Maxx! I can’t bring myself to buy them full price, so I just stalk TJ Maxx and wait for them to show up at a discount 🙂

These look amazing! I’ve been hoping someone would come out with a golden Oreo cupcake recipe for so long I almost cried when I saw these (I have a problem) but I was wondering if the cake mixes in your recipes are supposed to be 16.25 ounces or 18.25 ounces? A lot of cake mix recipes call for 18.25 ounces but I can’t find those anywhere where I live, thanks!
Lizzy Mae Early says
I use the smaller boxes! so anything from 15-17 oz is perfect!

Made these for my boyfriend’s birthday. These are so moist and delicious, not too sweet at all. I added some cinnamon to the batter and used mini golden Oreos for the decoration. Love these!

How many cupcakes does it make? I don’t see a serving size.
